Best of football over the decade

Over the last decade, English football has witnessed some dramatic and magical moments both domestically and in the European stage. The country has witnessed some of the great players play the beautiful game. We take a look at some of the best moments both on and off the pitch that made the past 10 years memorable.

Firstly, the all English Champions League final pitting Manchester United and Chelsea in Moscow. The match came to life in the 26th minute when Ronaldo met Wes Brown's cross to head the ball into the bottom corner. United nearly went two up moments later after a magnificent counter attack. Chelsea responded on the stroke of half time through Frank Lampard to tie the match at 1-1. Chelsea hit the woodwork on two occasions.

The match went into extra time and both teams failed to break the deadlock. Drogba was sent off for slapping Vidic meaning he won't be on the list of penalty takers. Ronaldo saw his penalty saved by Cech after stuttering his run. The captain of Chelsea, John Terry could have won the cup but slipped and hit the post with his penalty kick. Van der Sar won the game for United after saving Anelka's penalty on the 50th anniversary of the Munich air disaster.

The Arsenal team of 2003-2004 went throughout the campaign in an unbeaten fashion. This was an amazing feat that is not easy to emulate. The team then was like a well oiled machine with Henry and Ljungburg spearheading the attack. A great midfield that was backed up by a solid back line made this team to be considered as the best starting 11 of the decade.

The achievement of Liverpool in Istanbul was just incredible. Liverpool faced Italian giants AC Milan in the Champions league final. Milan's attack was lethal and Liverpool found themselves 3 NIL down at half time. In the first fifteen minutes of the second half, Liverpool replied with one of the greatest comebacks to draw back level. They went to win the cup through penalties.

The tunnel bust up between Vieira and Keane showed the extent of rivalry that existed between United and Arsenal. Vieira started it all by intimidating Gary Neville as soon as he came off the pitch after warming up for the match and confronted him in the tunnel at the start of the match.

In 2003, Chelsea was bought by Roman Abramovich to make them a force in the EPL. Chelsea built a team with one of the best players in the world backed by the arrival of Jose Mourinho who spearheaded the team to glory in the subsequent years.

There are also individual achievements by players. A cracker of a match in Anfield saw Arshavin score four goals as the match ended four all. Arshavin was unplayable and the goals were netted in a spectacular fashion. In 2008, Ronaldo's scoring exploits saw him net 42 times was also an incredible achievement and it confirmed what a great player he is.
